Soon after leaving his job, Gallo took an acting class in New York City — which wasn't too far from his home in New Jersey — and fell in love with the craft. He decided he wanted to be an actor and moved to the Big Apple to chase his dreams. His car insurance is also fairly cheap because he's on his parents' plan and reimburses them for the cost. His only other insurance cost is renters insurance for his apartment, since he receives free health insurance through the state. Why Are Pants So Big (Again)?
  + stars: | 2024-03-03 | by ( Jonah Weiner | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
My pants had been slim for some 15 years, since so-called skinny jeans first hit the market in earnest, around 2005. Narrow silhouettes quickly spread, until they felt less like a trend and more like a structural fact of existence: A decade after their ascendance, slim-fit pants remained common currency across generations, demographics and body types. BTS, at the time the biggest pop group in the world, wore them. And then, in a rupture whose center I place within the broader pandemic-era upheavals of 2020, the “right” pants began to lurch away from the leg at scale. Jeans, a kind of Patient Zero for pants trends, showed symptoms of acute-onset elephantiasis.

Thrift stores are a great place to find hidden gems. A Pennsylvania Goodwill recently received an extremely rare LEGO piece that it was able to sell for a small fortune. The Dubois, Pa. store received a donation of a box of jewelry that contained something curious: a gold Bionicle mask from the popular action figure line from the early 2000s. "We didn't know what we had when we found it," a representative for Goodwill in North Central Pennsylvania told local news station WTAJ in an interview this week. "It came in a box full of random jewelry from the State College store.

Sophie Riegel turned her boredom into a six-figure side hustle. Riegel was a Duke University freshman in 2020, when Covid-19 turned her first year of college into a remote experience. Within weeks, she was selling roughly $50 per day of thrifted clothing, mostly buying T-shirts for $1 apiece and selling them for up to $10. The total figure is slightly higher, she says, due to in-person sales and other revenue for which she doesn't have documentation. Now, Riegel sells around 10 items per day, averaging between $400 and $500 in revenue daily.

A TikToker thought she found her dream pair of Prada loafers at a Goodwill boutique for $300. TikToker Maiya Mindoro learned that the hard way after purchasing her dream pair of $1,200 Prada shoes at a Goodwill boutique for $300, only to realize later they were counterfeits. AdvertisementShe said she accepted her mistake after comparing the shoes to other Prada items she'd purchased directly from the brand. Specifically, she noticed clear differences in the logo nameplates, which are flat on authentic Prada items but often textured on counterfeit pieces. And because brick-and-mortar Goodwill stores are all operated independently, as Bell pointed out, each has its own process for authenticating goods.

The "office siren" corporate aesthetic is taking over TikTok, but it isn't necessarily new. It blends high-fashion corporate looks with '90s and 2000s vintage charm — fitting for Gen Z, which can't get enough of the Y2K era. The office siren look is bold red lips, pencil skirts, stilettos, turtlenecks, chunky jewelry, and tons of neutrals and blacks. She said the office siren aesthetic began taking off around the same time, coincidentally when she decided to post her outfits that aligned with the trend.
